Computer Science for a rapidly changing world.

In the Information Age, Computer Science and disciplined computational thinking are essential for competitiveness and leadership. Rensselaer's outstanding faculty brings leadership in their fields to the classroom and provide unique research experiences to give students a head start on careers of professional impact.

The Rensselaer Center for Open Source (RCOS) approved as an associate member of the Open Source Initiative (OSI)

The Rensselaer Center for Open Source (RCOS) and the Open Source Initiative (OSI) would like to announce the approval of RCOS as an associate member of the OSI.  As the first student run organization to be accepted into the OSI, RCOS hopes to provide a roadmap for extending their unique approach to other undergraduate curricula in the furtherace of open source software models.

Research

Research in the Computer Science department concentrates on foundational problems with real-life applications. Our faculty actively engages in and lead large-scale interdisciplinary research projects in analysis of networked information, data science and stewardship, bioinformatics, ecology and environmental conservation. We seek to develop principled solutions to problems and illustrate our solutions with working prototypes.
