Our educational mission is to provide the highest quality education for all of our majors at both undergraduate and graduate level through teaching, advising, and mentoring. Our programs prepare our undergraduate students for graduate school and employment and prepare our graduate students for employment in academia, government labs, and industry. The engine of our research mission is our graduate program, supported in part by external funding in order to perform original and groundbreaking research and advise and mentor our undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences is recognized both nationally and internationally as a leading center of applied mathematics research coupled with a well-established reputation for outstanding education in all fields of mathematics.  We are expanding our research and graduate training into new and growing areas of applied mathematics, and improving our existing educational programs as well as developing new programs for education, training and career development in mathematics.

The goal of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department is to have transformative impact in the fields of geoscience education and research by: focusing research endeavors on environmentally impactful areas; creating new and innovative classroom modules that provide students with real-world experiences; and enhancing and expanding the diversity of our undergraduate and graduate student bodies and faculty.

Computer Science is revolutionizing all fields of inquiry, and our graduates are driving these new advances, profoundly altering how we live for the better. The CS department aims to produce graduates that make a positive impact on the world by driving the major new advances in emerging areas (e.g., artificial general intelligence, autonomous systems, quantum computing). Our goal is to offer the best possible pedagogy, research and community sense for our students, staff, and faculty.

The mission of the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department is to provide a holistic and synergistic education involving dynamic hands-on teaching, professional development, and personal growth in an environment of inclusive excellence; and to carry out innovative chemistry research that addresses national and global problems in the areas of health, energy, environment, and biotechnology.

In the Department of Biological Sciences, we address global challenges in the life sciences with fundamental research and by utilizing the data science environment at RPI to break new ground in quantitative biological research. We prioritize scientific rigor, innovative instruction, broad collaboration, diversity, inclusion, equity, and equality. Our departmental strength lies in the innovative nature of existing faculty and collaborations within the department, at RPI, and beyond the institute that lead to a premier research and teaching program in data-driven Biological Sciences.
