Each Master’s student must participate in a Capstone Professional Experience, by registering for and completing one of the following alternatives:
- a Masters’ Project in Mathematics, MATH-6890;
- a Master’s Practicum, MATH-6970, such as a graduate cooperative internship or active participation in the Applied Mathematics Industry Workshop;
- a sequence of two MATH courses, at least one of which is at the 6000 level, with second digit either 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 [one may be an appropriate Special Topics course MATH-696X, subject to your advisor’s approval];
- a sequence of two MATP courses, at least one of which is at the 6000 level (one may be an appropriate Special Topics course MATP-696X, subject to your advisor’s approval).
For a Practicum, a department faculty member must approve plans in advance and will certify its satisfactory completion. This experience may, but need not, be arranged for (up to six) academic credits. A paid teaching position does not fulfill this requirement. You should ask the Graduate Student Coordinator for the form needed for the proposal and completion of a Master’s Practicum.
