Computer Science is used in all aspects of modern-day life and requires a combination of precise problem solving and incredible creativity. Jobs in Computer Science range from software design and development to user experience design and data analytics.

A Rensselaer undergraduate education in computer science prepares students to solve real-world problems and carry out fundamental research.  Our students have distinguished themselves by founding companies while still in school, landing high-income jobs at such companies as IBM, Microsoft, GE, Google, Cisco, and Morgan Stanley, and many go on to prominent graduate schools.

The Computer Science Department has well-equipped laboratories for instruction and research, including the Cisco Academy's program, over 200 Cisco networking devices and an IBM Blue Gene supercomputer, which provides more than 70 TeraFLOPS of computing power and is among the fastest supercomputers in the world.
