Donald Schwendeman Department Head
The fundamental mission of the Department of Mathematical Sciences is to build an active, diverse and welcoming environment designed to enrich existing areas of mathematical research and to develop new areas, as well as to educate students to become the future leaders in mathematics, science, engineering, business and society. Throughout the history of Rensselaer, research and education conducted in the math department have made a significant impact within the Institute and in the scientific community. This tradition has not changed, and today our community of researchers and educators continue to make new discoveries and important contributions at the cutting edge of mathematics and interdisciplinary research in numerous areas of science and engineering. Our students benefit from this activity and have moved forward to successful careers at top-tier universities and national laboratories, and in business and industry.
